Consanguineous Marriage, Health Literacy and Fatalism Levels of Different Generations: A Descriptive-Correlational Study in A Sample from Turkey

Abstract :Objective: This research was conducted to determine consanguineous marriage, health literacy, and fatalism levels of different generations and examine their relationship. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted with 463 individuals living in XXX between September 2021-March 2022. Results: Significant differences were found between the individuals\' Consanguineous Marriage Attitude Scale, Health Literacy Scale, and Fatalism Tendency Scale total score means and their generation (p<0.05). A significant negative correlation was found between the total score mean of the Individual\'s Consanguineous Marriage Attitude Scale and the total and all sub-dimensions of the Health Literacy Scale (p<0.05). A significant positive correlation was found between the total score mean of the Consanguineous Marriage Attitude Scale and the total score mean of the Fatalism Tendency Scale and age (p<0.05). A significant negative correlation was found between the Health Literacy Scale Total Score Mean and age (p<0.05). Conclusion: In our study, it was found that the attitude of the baby boom generation towards consanguineous marriage was higher, the health literacy level of the Z generation was higher, and the fatalism tendency of the X generation was found to be higher.Keywords : Consanguineous marriage, Fatalism, Generations, Health literacy, Turkey
