Abstract :Purpose: This study was intended to identify the disability and drug use of elderly nursing home residents and to examine their life quality. Methods: This is a descriptive research and included all the elderly individuals who were present at a Nursing Home affiliated with the Gaziantep Ministry of Family and Social Policies during the Turkish National Older People’s Week celebrated from March 8 to 24. This research was conducted using the Elderly Identification Form and the short form of the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale-TR. Descriptive statistical methods mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum , Chi-square test and t test were used in the analysis. The statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS for Windows 15. 0 with a threshold for significance of p < 0.05. Results: The age distribution of the participants was: 33.9% young-old, 53.2% middle-old, 12.9% oldest-old. Of them, 34.1% of the males and 33.3% of the females had at least one physical disability. The females took 4.16 ± 3.18 medications, and the males took 2.29 ± 2.71 medications per day on average. The elderly people’s environmental sub-scale score on the Quality of Life scale was 14.47 ± 1.76, and their mean physical sub-scale score was 13.64 ± 3.38. Their psychological sub-scale score was 13.34 ± 2.70, and their social sub-scale score was 12.55 ± 2.89. Conclusion: Nurses and other care providers should carefully observe the physical, emotional and social needs of the elderly. To improve their life quality, they should be allowed to perform their daily activities on their own by helping them with their disabilities.
