Abstract :Aim: The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of dsypnea on quality of life and depression in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD .Materials and methods: The study was conducted with patients admitted to the Mustafa Kemal University Health Practice and Research Hospital Chest Diseases Clinic, who had been referred to the physiotherapy department for respiratory rehabilitation. Data from previous patients were also included. 40 patients 22 male, 18 female with a mean age of 65.55±11.77, all of whom had been diagnosed with COPD, were included in the study. Demographic data, the Modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale score which looks at the patient’s level of dyspnea , the Beck Depression Inventory score which screens for depression and the Short Form-36 which examines quality of life were each recorded. Results: 22.5% of the patients had grade I, 40% had grade II, 27.5% had grade III and 10% had grade IV dyspnea. 30% of the patients had severe, 40% moderate and 30% mild COPD. According to the Beck Depression Inventory, 10% had moderate depression, whilst 62.5% had severe depression.
