Abstract :Having an ever-increasing rate of incidence, Diabetes Mellitus DM is a life-changing experience for a person. As it is a life-long chronic disease, it affects the lives of individuals and families in all aspects. Besides pathophysiological changes in individuals, it causes conflicts, problems and changes in the psychosocial dimension. All of these changes can aggravate management of diabetes and have adverse effects on a patient’s length and quality of life. A diabetic individual needs to keep both his or her disease and life under control which requires adequate knowledge, skill and a positive attitude to manage the disease. Nursing interventions can play a significant in the management of DM. Nurses should correct negative attitudes of patients about diabetes by detecting them and providing support for the development of positive attitudes. To achieve these goals, the nurse must not forget the effect of using theories and models in nursing practice. In particular, nurses should consider the Neuman Systems Model, which has a holistic human-focused approach and places emphasis on collaboration with the patient in the identification of all objectives and the planning of interventions. By using the Neuman Systems Model, nurses are better able to identify and diagnose areas of particular stress to diabetic patients and recommend and implement treatment from a holistic perspective.
