Abstract :Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the ethical decision making process of nursing students and the factors that effect them.Method: Total 848 1st and 4th year students at Pamukkale, Karadeniz Teknik, Ankara, and Hacettepe University nursing departments, were chosen by stratified random sampling method and constituted the study sample. Data was collected with a questionnaire and the Nursing Ethical Dilemma Test. For statistical analysis, descriptive statistics frequency, mean values , t test and variance analysis were used.Results: The students’ average age was 20.01±2.07; 81.1% were male, and 44.5% had previously encountered an ethic problem. Most of the ethical problems reported were communication problems between patient and nurse. The students remarked that these were reported to a person of authority 50.3% . Students’ Practical Consideration PC test average point is 20,10 ± 4,85; Principle Thinking PT test average point is 49,87 ± 6,83; Ethical Dilemmas test average point is 18.32 ± 2.93. Familiarity score means of women were higher. It was found that the students with nuclear type families had a significantly higher mean of PT scores. Also, a statistically significant difference is recorded in the PC, PT and familiarity point averages among those taking ethics education and according to their class levels pKeywords : nursing, ethic, decision-making
