Abstract :In this study, we aimed to evaluate the levels of knowledge and awereness of women regarding violence against women and to evaluate the effects of sociodemographic characteristics on this knowledge and awareness. This descriptive study was conducted during November-December 2013 using a face-to-face questionnaire method in two different hospitals in the Eastern part of Turkey. The questionnaire was prepared by the researchers and was administered to women who agreed to participate. It was comprised primarily of closed ended questions about basic demographic characteristics, knowledge and attitudes regarding violence against women. We used the convenience sampling method. A total violence against women knowledge score was calculated. Data was analyzed with the SPSS 15.0. The questionnaire was administered to 196 women. The mean age of participants was 30.98±5.74. Most of the participants 94.9% indicated that behaviours like humuliation, and were defined as violence. The total violence knowledge score and standard deviation of women were 11.61 and 2.69 respectively Max:15, min:6 . Marital status, education, type of hospital admission were not associated with the violence knowledge score p>0.05
