Abstract :Aim: The aim of this descriptive study was to compare and examine the communication skill levels of Nursing Students of Health School and Students of Physical Education and Sportsin University in terms of various parameters. Material and Method: 496 students of Nursing and Physical Education and Sports Departments at a University in 2014-2015 academic year participated in the study. The data was collected through "Personel Information Form” and "The Scale of Evaluation of Communication Skills” questionnaires developed by Korkut 1996 . The accumulated data was evaluated by SPSS 20 statistics program. In the analysis of the data; frequency, chi square, t-test, Anova, Man Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis H tests were used. Permission from both the participants and the related institutions was obtained prior to the delivery of questionnaires. Results: In this study, Nursing students’ communication skill levels were 61±15.97 and Physical Education and Sports Students’ communication skill levels were 67.93±16.01 The difference between the two groups was statistically significant p.05 . Male students’ communication skill level showed to be lower than the level of female students but it was not significantly different. The results did not show significant difference according to students exercise patterns, place of living, parents educational level, or parents income level with the communication skills. Conclusion: The result of the study shows that, increasing the students’ class level does not change the communication skill scores. The fact that male students demonstrated lower communication skills creates a necessity of changing the curriculum as students’ communication skill levels should be developed equally for the purpose of preparing them for the profession. Keywords : communication skills, nursing, high school of physical education and sports
