Abstract :Objective: The objective of this study was to identify factors affecting blood donation behaviour and, these factors within the framework of the theory of planned behavior to assess.Suggested by the theory, perceived behavioral control, attitude and subjective norms determine the effects on blood donation intentions and behavior. The other purpose of this study is to obtain information that will form the basis of creating public awareness and campaigns about blood donation to increase results.Material and Method: This causal-descriptive study was conducted between 8-27 November 2014, Participants were people at Eskişehir city center, Turkey, who agreed to participate in the study. A questionnaire and a modified version of the scale, related to blood donation behavior, were used. Data analysis software packages SPSS 21.0 and LISREL 8.51 were used. In addition to descriptive statistics, EFA, CFA and SEM were used. All ethical principals in research were adhered to.Results: Five factors were identified from the AFA analysis called; the subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, attitude, intention and behavior. These factors explain all of the variances. 66.81% From the result of the DFA analysis, the goodness of fit belonging to the scale indexes are within acceptable limits and the scale is statistically valid. According to YEM analysis, it was concluded that the closer the relationship between people the greater effect on the perceived behavioral control and attitudes towards blood donation. These two variables also affect the intention toward blood donation and the intention directly affects the behavior of blood donation. In addition, the identified factors varied according to demographic characteristics of the participants.Conclusions: It can be said that more realistic and successful policies can be incorporated into blood donation campaigns with identification of factors that influence blood donation behaviorsKeywords : Blood donation, intent, theory of planned behavior
