Abstract :Objectives: To evaluate the demographic characteristics, treatment-related side effects and treatment compliance found among Syrian refugees with cancer and compare this with Turkish citizens. Patients and Methods: The study was conducted at Gaziantep Dr. Ersin Arslan State Hospital, Medical Oncology outpatient clinic, in January 2015. One-hundred-ninety patients on chemotherapy were included. Face to face interviews wereconducted. Results: The median age of participants was 51 years-old and of them 60% were male. There were no differences between the two groups in terms of age and gender. The most common complaints were fatigue 65% vs. 64% , insomnia 50% and 55% , pain 61% and 49% and anorexia 37% and 36% . Toxicity rates were similar between groups. Adherence to treatment was also similar among groups. Conclusion: Unlike previous studies in the literature, patients’ demographic characteristics, treatment, treatment-related toxicities and treatment compliance were similar between our study groupsKeywords : refugees cancer patients, treatment compliance, adverse events
