Abstract :Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and behaviour on rabies of patients admitted to the hospital with suspected rabies animal attack. Patients and Methods: Study was based on a questionnaire, on the properties of animal attack cases, their first behaviour after contact and includes questions aimed at measuring the level of information on rabies. The survey was conducted from the Dr. Lutfi Kırdar Kartal Education and Research Hospital between 15/07/2012 and 15/10/2012. 400 cases were obtained and the questionaire was done face-to-face. Results: In this study patients who were assaulted the most were the age 18 and age 18 and under and under group with a range of 47,8%. Animal attack victims were 62.8% male. The attacking animal was found to be cat with 49.2%. 36% of animal bites happened spontaneously. In study, 97% of respondents were admitted to hospital within 72 hours and 47.8% of them preferred soap and water for cleaning. 51.2% of our participants gave the wrong answer to the question ‘What kind of disease is rabies? ”and 54.7% of respondents gave the wrong answer to the question about rabies transmission. Conclusion: As a result of this study, the information level of the applicants about the disease was determined to be low. In conclusion, knowledge about suspicious animal bites affects the admission to the health facilities.Keywords : rabies, rabies information, contact risk of rabies, post exposure prophylaxis
