Abstract :Purpose:The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is a relationship between the number of steps and sleep quality. Patients and Methods:Forty-three healthy individuals (19 males, 24 females) aged 18-30 years participated in this study. All individual\\\'s age, sex, height, weight and average daily number of steps taken in the study were recorded and posture analysis was performed with New York Posture Analysis method. The physical activity level in one week by International Physical Activity Scale (PFAQ), sleep quality by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Scale (PDCA), muscular strength of back extensor muscles by manual muscle test and muscular endurance of back extensors by Sorensen test were also evaluated. Results:The mean age of the participants was 27 ±4.2 years and the mean of body mass index was 22.98 ±3.82 kg/m2. No significant relationship was found between sleep quality and back extensor muscular endurance, the number of daily steps, and physical activity levels of the participants (p> 0.05). Sleep quality with back extensor muscle strength and sex were correlated (p <0.05). Sleep quality of male was worse than female. Conclusion:There was a relationship between sleep quality and gender, and back extensor muscular force. But no relationship was found between back extensor muscular endurance, daily steps, physical activity level and sleep quality. Strengthening the back extensor muscles in young individuals with impaired sleep quality may result in improved sleep quality.Keywords : Exercise, Sleep
