Abstract :In the Yenisey Inscriptions, the word with the spelling K ẄR T L  in E-10/5 and K ẄR T L A in E-52/1 has been rendered by various researchers as  körtläl ,  kört äl ,  kürt el ,  körtlä ,  kürtlä ,  kürtütül  and has been given different meanings to it. The present work emphasizes that the word should be read as  körtlä  based on etymological and semantic evidences.
