Abstract :Energy is the one of the basic needs in order to survive since human existence. The vast majority of this energy is derived from fosil fuels. The increase in energy demand, the limited resources, and harmful effect of diesel fuels on the environment have forced to research for alternative energy sources. Solar energy which is used instead of fossil fuels is one of the most popular alternative energy sources. Photovoltaic cell systems are used to convert the solar energy into the electricity energy directly. These systems consist of solar panels, batteries, charge regulators and inverters. In this study, photovoltaic cell system was installed to supply the electricity demand of a house (4400 Wh/day) in Erdemli, Mersin and the cost of the system was calculated. To provide the electricity demand, six solar panels having the capacity of 165W, one battery with 400Ah, one inverter having the capacity of 1000VA and one charge regulator with 1000W were used. The solar panels which are effective on the system efficiency were placed with an angle of 59.68° between the panel and ground. The price of energy provided by Photovoltaic cell system was calculated as 0.010070 TL/Wh and the price of mains electricity of Enerjisadetermined by EPDK was about 0.230995 TL/Wh. The life of photovoltaic cell systems is about 25 years and the invoice cost of this system with interest was calculated for 25 years. The cost of system was 61261.94 TL less than the invoice cost. This finding showed that the usage of photovoltaic cell system is quite profitable. Keywords : Solar energy, photovoltaic cell system, cost analysis
