The Impact of Sporting Activities of Middle School Students on Bullying Tendencies

Abstract :The aim of this study was to determine the effect of sportive activity status of secondary school students on bullying tendency. This descriptive study was conducted with the participation of 996 students in four secondary schools in a province in the Central Anatolia Region. Data were collected by using the "Child Identification Information Form”, "Sport Activity Status Assessment Form”, ran Peer Relations Questionnaire ”and" Bullying Tendency Scale ”. The mean age of the secondary school students included in the study was 12.21 ± 1.24; 51.1% are girls and 94.8% live in the province. 91.5% of the students stated that they do team sports, 89.0% of them do individual sports, 13.0% of them do martial sports. The scores of the sub-dimension of the use of power of the students' individual sports; It was determined that the status of doing martial sports had a significant effect on the negative reflection, justification, distressing others and using force sub-dimension scores (p <0.05).It is concluded that the high tendency of the ones who do sports individually is to exert their superiority based on individual strength, and those who are engaged in martial arts have a high tendency to direct their negative emotions towards the weaker, justify themselves for bullying behaviors, enjoy hurting others and exert their superiority based on individual strength.Keywords : Child, Sports, Bullying
