Abstract :Tourism development policies are destined to fail if they do not include local people’s expectations and perceptions. Therefore, local people’s perception of the effects of tourism and the level of their expectations are crucial for any attempt to develop a destination. Keeping this in mind, the main aim of this research is to measure the expectations and perceptions of tourism’s impact on environmental issues by reaching out to local people in Edirne. To do so, a questionnaire is developed to collect data from Edirne residents, using a convenience sampling technique. The data obtained has been analysed with SPSS. According to the results gathered from the research conducted on 750 respondents, no statistically significant differences are expected from the effects of tourism on environmental factors. Discussion and implications of this study are provided. Keywords : Edirne, Effects of Tourism, Environmental Factors, Edirne, Locals
