Abstract :Violence emerges as a problem that affects the entire society in terms of its consequences and impacts. While laws play a deterrent role in preventing violence, the objectives also encompass rehabilitating and reintegrating the perpetrator into society, aiming to facilitate their healing. Understanding the underlying reasons for violent tendencies and conducting research on this subject are crucial. It is widely acknowledged that violence is a learned behavior and thought pattern, deeply intertwined with cultural characteristics. Similarly, places and their attributes carry cultural significance and are shaped by the individuals within them. Thoughts related to open and closed spaces also embody cultural meanings and encompass gender-specific traits. This research aims to reveal the perceptions of male offenders, who have been convicted of domestic violence against women, regarding the location where they committed the violent acts at the Ankara High Security Forensic Psychiatry Hospital. Employing a qualitative approach, the study employed semi-structured interviews with the participants. The findings suggested that closed/private spaces were culturally deemed intimate and secretive, simultaneously representing domains of male dominance. Consequently, it was inferred that violence observed in such locations manifested in a more uncontrolled manner. Unraveling and bringing visibility to violence in closed/private spaces hold paramount importance in this research. Keywords : Aile içi şiddet, hüküm giymek, erkeklik, mekan algısı.
