Abstract :This study analyses the validity of cointegrated relationships between regional innovations and exports for 81 Turkish provinces during the time period of 2003-2017. In this context, three Panel Johansen Fisher Cointegration Tests are conducted for 81 regions and 15 years. The main contribution of this study is on the point of analyzing the long-term relationships of regional innovativeness and exports for Turkey about recent years with a wide range of data. Moreover, the main purposes of this study are twofold. The first purpose of the study is to shed some light on the relationships between innovative activities and foreign trade in Turkish regions during recent years. And the second purpose is to be able to develop some policy recommendations for Turkish provinces in the context of competitive advantages. The empirical results indicate that there are long-term cointegrated relationships between regional innovativeness and exports. All three kinds of regional innovations (patent registries, utility model registries and design registries) are seem to be in a long-term cointegrated relationships with regional exports.
