Abstract :Objectives: This study aims to investigate the relationship between parents’ mindful eating and adolescents’ body mass index. Materials and Methods: This study has a randomized and cross-sectional design. Mothers or fathers (n=224) with children between the ages of 10-19 and living in the same house, who approved the consent forms, were included in the study. Turkish version of the mindful eating questionnaire (MEQ-TR) was applied to parents and the BMI of adolescents was taken. Results: The average total score of MEQ-TR, disinhibition, emotional eating, control of eating, focusing, eating discipline, mindfulness and interference sub-factors for parents were 3.5±0.5, 3.5±0.8, 3.7±0.9, 3.6±0.7, 3.2±0.4, 3.3±0.8, 3.3±0.6, 3.9±0.7, respectively. there was a negative correlation between adolescents’ BMI and the control of eating sub-factor of parents (p<0.05, r = -0.158). Conclusion: Our study is one of the few researches investigating the relationship between parents’ mindful eating and adolescents’ BMI. The relationship between parents’ eating behaviors and adolescents’ obesity is an important research area. Future studies are needed to reveal the relationship.Keywords : adolescents, mindful eating, obesity
