Abstract :Objective: Our aim is to compare the anxiety and sleep quality levels of smokers and non-smokers and to investigate the relationship between smoking duration and daily consumption amounts with anxiety and sleep quality. Materials and Methods: Eighty individuals, between the ages of 18 and 50, with a mean age of 31.98±10.31 years were participated in the study. Participants were divided into two groups as smokers (n=40) and non-smokers (n=40). The smoker group was divided into two groups as the one smoking less than half a pack (n=20) and the other smoking more than one pack (n=20). Anxiety was evaluated with the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and sleep quality with the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Results: It was found that the anxiety level of the smoker group was higher and the sleep quality values were lower than the control group (p<0.001). There are relationships among the smoking duration, the amount of cigarette consumption (r = -0.530 , p<0.001) and anxiety (r =0.381 , p=0.015), between the amount of cigarette consumption and anxiety (r = -0.384 , p=0.014) and between the sleep quality and the anxiety (r=0.546 , p<0.001). Conclusion: Smoking causes an increase in the level of anxiety and a decrease in sleep quality. As the smoking duration increases, the anxiety score increases and as the anxiety level increases, the sleep quality decreases. Keywords : Anxiety, Cigarette Smoking, Sleep Quality
