Abstract :This year, we celebrated the 41st anniversary of the foundation of Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Architecture and also organized the 30th Year Meeting for our graduates who started their education in 1989. We looked back on memories of our school, as well as the scene of architecture and urban planning 30 years ago. Yet in this issue of EKSEN JFA, we face current global topics and challenges in theory and practice. The articles published in this issue dwell on the contemporary matters of energy efficiency, adaptive facades, accessibility, urban identity loss, parametric design, and metaverse. Mehmet Esgil and Ruşen Yamaçlı’s article "Energy Efficient Design With Adaptable Facades” evaluates energy efficient façade design parameters as criteria, by taking into consideration the importance of energy efficient design against economic and environmental problems caused by energy consumption, and proposes adaptive facades as the ideal solution. Merve Coşandal, Sabina Suleimanova, and Görkem Gülhan’s article "Investigation of the Effect of Accessibility in ATM Location Methods: The Case of Denizli” proposes suitable locations through accessibility analyses and multiple linear regression analyses, by emphasizing the overlooked issue of accessibility in the selection of ATM locations. Esra Çelik and Halit Coza’s article "A Relational Analysis Study Between Urban Architecture and Zoning Regulations: A Case of Denizli”, criticizing the loss of originality in cities and the resulting identity ambiguity over time due to the regulations, examines the impact of zoning regulations over Denizli and makes a contribution to the city archive. Nilofar Nazari and Emine İpek Özbek’s article "The Effects of urban Design on Urban Identity Construction: Kızılay and Kızılırmak Neighborhoods” criticizes the recent loss of identity and distinctive qualities in cities using two neighborhoods in Ankara as case studies. Sevgi Öztürk, Öznur Işınkaralar, Dilara Yılmaz, and Feyza Kesimoğlu’s article "A Comparative Analysis of Some Shopping Centers in Metropol Cities of Türkiye Using IPA and IPCA Methods” analyzes the extent to which the physical features of shopping malls in Ankara and Istanbul meet the preferences and expectations of users. Çetin Süalp, Saniye Karaman Öztaş, and Nilay Coşgun’s article "Examination of Responsive Facade Systems in Terms of Embodied Energy: Kiefer Technic Showroom” suggests that the embedded energies of adaptable kinetic facade systems can be reduced by changing only material preferences without compromising performance values for a sustainable approach. Çiğdem Kılınç Gül and H. Filiz Alkan Meşhur’s article "The Changing Meaning of Urban Identity and Space in the transition from Modernism to Postmodernism” examines the changes in the notions of place, time, and space in the transition from modernism to postmodernism, focusing on the concept of displacement that arises due to identity loos in cities and architecture. Rıza Fatih Mendilcioğlu’s article "Parametric Design as a Creation Tool for Cultural Space: The Case of Lisbon Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology” explores the re-production of the relationships of architecture – culture, architecture – meaning, and culture – architectural material by using parametric design through this building. Mehmet Şener, Mehtap Özbayraktar, and Neslihan Türkmenoğlu Bayraktar’s article "An Alternative Architecture Graduate Course Conducted Through Distance Education and its Effects on Student Learning Process” analyses the impacts of alternative methods on student learning achievement within the scope of an architectural graduate course held remotely and online during the pandemic. Kerem Düzenli and Nazım Ziya Perdahçı’s article "The Impact of Metaverse and NFTs on Architecture: How Will the Buildings of the Future Take Shape?” examines the potential impact of the metaverse, blockchain technology, and NFTs on architectural design.
