Abstract :ÖZET Amaç: Yoğun Bakım Üniteleri (YBÜ), hayati fonksiyonlarındaki risk nedeniyle özel bakım gerektiren hastaların tedavi edildikleri birimlerdir. In these patients, patient care-related infections (PCRI) are frequently seen due to many factors, especially the widespread use of invasive procedures. This study was conducted to evaluate the correlation of culture results and clinical diagnosis of patients with catheter-related urinary tract infection (CRUTI) in the ICU. Material and Methods: 4281 urine culture results of 2290 patients and active surveillance results sent from ICUs of our hospital between January 2018 and January 2019 were evaluated. Results: Culture positivity was found in 285 (12.5%) patients. Candida spp., was found in 130 (45.6%) and a bacterial pathogens in 155 (54.4%) culture positive samples. The most frequently isolated bacteria were Enterococcus spp., (24.9%) and E. coli (16.8%). In the same time period, 11 (0.48%) of the patients were diagnosed with CRUTI by active surveillance. In 5 (45.5%) of these patients Enterococcus spp. and in 3 (27.3%) of them E. coli were the most commonly reported microorganisms. Conclusion: In the same patient group, a significant difference was found between the diagnosis of urinary tract infection based on culture results and clinical evaluation criteria, and it was concluded that the examination of this issue would be more beneficial for hospital surveillance.
