Abstract :ÖZET Amaç: Kronik Obstrüktif Akciğer Hastalığı (KOAH) kardiyovasküler komorbiditeler, periferal kas disfonksiyonu, kilo kaybı, sistemik inflamasyon ve psikolojik problemler gibi birçok komorbidite ile beraber olabilir. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between COPD disease severity and balance. Materials and Methods: In our prospective study, patients were divided into two groups according to Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) classification: group A and group B (mild to moderate) and group C and D (heavy to very heavy). Demographic data, pulmonary function tests, Modified Medical Research Council Scale (mMRC), COPD Evaluation Test (CAT), Saint George Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), as well as the Berg Balance Scale were applied. Results: Forty-five patients with COPD were included in the study. As the stage progressed in COPD, worsening of balances was found. It may be appropriate to use the Berg Balance Scale to assess the dynamic balance, especially in advanced stage patients. While the difference between balance scale and COPD attack, MRC and CAT values were significant (p values; 0.016, 0.033 and 0.0179, respectively), there was no difference between SGRQ activity, symptom and total values. Conclusions: It may be appropriate to use the Berg Balance Scale to assess the dynamic balance, especially in advanced stage patients.
