CPAP tedavisini tolere edemeyen hastalarda cerrahi tedavi yapılabilir. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is defined as daytime hypersomnia, the presence of 5 or more respiratory events (apnea, hypopnea, RERA) during sleep with testicular apnea and snoring. Epidemiologic studies have shown that the prevalence of OSA is 2-3 times more frequent in male than female. In the OSA, collapse occurs during sleep in the upper airway. The etiology of collapse is multifactorial. Obesity, sex, age, craniofacial anatomy, genetic factors, ethnicity are risk factors for OSA. Polysomnography is the gold standard for OSAS diagnosis. The first step of treatment in OSAS is to take general precautions. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy is the most commonly used treatment. Surgical treatment can be performed in patients who can not tolerate CPAP treatment.
