Abstract :National architectural competitions are architectural production practices that reflect the architectural identity and character of the era, contributing significantly to the national architectural memory on a societal level. These competitions have been viewed as opportunities for the implementation of modern architectural discourse in Anatolian cities since the early years of the Republic. In this context, national architectural competitions that greatly influence the identity of Anatolian cities also to a certain extent mirror the architectural conventions of the period. Competitions that constitute the architectural memory at the national level also represent the architectural stance of the era. The time, effort, and financial resources invested in the implementation phase for projects that have gone through the competition process, presented to the public and decided upon in front of society, reveal an undeniable value. In Turkey, among the building types constructed through competition practice, Government Offices and Municipal Buildings take precedence. Architect Merih Karaaslan\'s competition-winning projects, the Antalya Government Office in 1974 and the Ankara Altındağ Municipal Building and Urban Arrangement in 1987, were implemented and built. Subsequently, both structures were demolished for specific reasons, causing them to lose their place in the urban memory. The purpose of this study is to conduct a process-based analysis of the Antalya Government Office and Ankara Altındağ Municipal Building and Urban Arrangement competition projects in light of the demolition decisions made for specific reasons. This analysis aims to contribute to the documentation of the 20th-century Turkish modern architectural heritage. The methodology of the study involves the analysis and synthesis of architectural competition records, printed and digital media, and official documents related to the subject. Keywords : demolition, memory, public building, national architecture competition
