Abstract :The aim of the study is to investigate readiness level of student teachers of English in terms of four main aspects: motivation level, their use of metacognitive strategies, responsibility perceptions and the outside conducted activities. The data was collected via a questionnaire (LARI) administered to the 1st year students of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University. With a sample of 200 participants, the study inquired learners from English Philology Department. The findings of the study state that student teachers were in need of training for autonomous learning. It was found out that student teachers should be involved in courses like "Planning for independence” and "Student-centred learning”.Keywords : autonomous learning, student-centred learning, motivation, metacognitive strategies, responsibility perception, quantitative method, Common European Framework of References
