Abstract :The elastic-plastic deformation of a tube with free ends subjected to uniform internal energy generation is evaluated using Tresca's yield condition and the associated flow rule. Yielding starts at the outer boundary and later another plastic region develops at the center, both of them corresponding to an `edge regime' of Tresca's prism. The expansion of the plastic regions with increasing thermal load and the distribution of stresses and plastic strains are displayed graphically and discussed.Keywords : Elastic-plastic, Thermal stresses, Internal energy, Tube.
