Abstract :Twenty registered cultivars, 6 lines and 3 local populations of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) were grown in con-trolled greenhouse conditions to determine their active iron (Fe+2) and total iron (Fe+2 + Fe+3) contents upon iron treatment. Control plants were grown in pots containing Fe deficient (0.9 mg Fe kg-1) soil while treated plants were applied with 10 mg Fe kg-1 in sequestrin form. Iron treatment (Fe+) significantly (p<0.01) affected active Fe (Fe+2) contents of plants. An average of 26.2% in-crease in active Fe content (10.85 mg Fe kg-1) compared to untreated control plants from which an average of 8.60 mg Fe kg-1 was obtained. Fe application x genotype interaction was also significant with respect to active Fe contents. The highest active Fe content (13.31 mg Fe kg-1) was obtained from Er-99 genotype with Gökçe, Menemen-92 and İzmir-92 were other high Fe containing genotypes when treated with Fe. Fe treatment significantly increased total Fe (Fe+2 + Fe+3) contents of the genotypes. The average total iron content of control group was 43.28 mg Fe kg-1 but when treated with Fe it reached to an average value of 106.36 mg Fe kg-1 (146%). Total Fe content was also significantly affected by Fe treatment x genotype interaction. Küsmen-99 had the highest total Fe content (136.30 mg Fe kg-1) whereas Kadınhanı local population had the lowest value (37. 49 mg Fe kg-1).Keywords : Nohut genotipleri, aktif demir, toplam demir
