Abstract :Vegetative filter strips are plant barriers established for preventing agricultural chemicals to access or reducing the amount of agricultural chemicals in run-off reached to the wet lands. These plant barriers are useful bodies to hinder agricultural chemicals such as organic-inorganic fertilizer and pesticides, especially herbicides, used agricultural purposes. Living plant strips decline the amount of run-off volume discharged to the water bodies via drainage considerable amount of run-off water under soil surface. Depending on the plant species sowed in barrier, VFS can contribute to enhance degradation of herbicides. The plants sowed in VFS have been chosen among the perennial plant species that they are uninjured or metabolised the herbicides used for agricultural purpose. Herbicide amount reached to the wet lands increase depending on rising of slope of agricultural lands and severity and duration of rainfall. Climate change has increased the frequency and severity of sudden heavy rainfall. Vegetative filter strips have been successfully used in countries had various cropping systems, soil type and climate for many years like Turkey. Keywords : Vejetatif filtre şeridi, Herbisit, Sürüklenme, Parçalanma
