Abstract :In without thinning sowing applications, it is needed to high field emergence. In Yield and quality response of barley to seeding rates are affected by cultivar, environmental conditions and sowing time. The effect of seeding rates (400, 450, 500, 550, 600 viable seeds m-2) on grain yield and some agronomic traits of two barley cultivars (Olgun, Tokak 157/37) was investigated for winter sowing under Erzurum rainfed conditions in 2014-15 and 2015-16 years. Tokak 157/37 had a significantly higher spikes per m-2, 1000-kernel weight and grain yield than cv. Olgun, whereas cv. Olgun had a significantly higher grains per spike and grain protein content than cv. Tokak 157/37. Except for vegetative period, grain filling period and 1000-kernel weight, ‘‘cultivar x seeding rate’’ interactions were not significant. Increasing seeding rate increased the spikes per m-2, while decreased 1000-kernel weight. The highest grain yield (5603 kg ha-1) was obtained from 550 viable seeds m-2, while the effect of seeding rates on grains per spike and grain protein content were insignificant. The results showed that the two winter barley cultivars should be grown at 550 viable seeds m-2 seeding rate under dryland conditions of Erzurum. Keywords : Arpa, Ekim sıklığı, Kışlık ekim, Verim
