Abstract :Diuraphis noxia (Kurd.) was the main pest of canarygrass in Konya province of Turkey and ıt’s damage makes cultiva-tion of this plant almost impossible in the province. This study was conducted to determine the population development of the aphid and the effect of the damage of these populations to the yield characters in different nitrogen and phosphorus doses on canarygrass. In trials four different nitrogen (0 kg.ha-1, 30 kg.ha-1, 60 kg.ha-1, 90 kg.ha-1) and four different phosphorus (0 kg.ha-1, 20 kg.ha-1, 40 kg.ha-1, 60 kg.ha-1) doses were used. The experiment was completely randomized design with three replications. Totally 48 parcels were weekly surveyed in 1998 and 1999. In 1998, to determine the effect of the damage of aphid populations to the yield components, some measurements and observations (plant height, panicula number per square meter, grain num-ber per panicula, panicula length, grain weight per ten panicula and grain yield) and laboratory analysis (1000 kernel weight and macronutrient concentration) were also made. The population development of D. noxia was quite close in different fertilizer combinations. But the highest peaks general-ly observed in higher nitrogen doses (N9P0, N6P0, N9P2). The aphid population in the highest nitrogen dose (N9P0) was in-creased in rate of 1/5 compared to N9P0 parcel which no nitrogen applied. On the contrary, the lowest peaks were determined in higher phosphorus doses (N0P4, N0P6 and N3P6). From the tested characters, only grain number per panicula (P<0,01) and grain weight per ten panicula (P<0,05) were significantly affected by different nitrogen and phosphorus doses. Of macroele-ments, the differences between parcels were found significant for nitrogen and potassium and not significant for phosphorus level. As a result, aphid population were parallely increased with increasing nitrogen doses. Otherwise, the resistance of plant was increased and consequently the damage of aphid partly decreased by high phosphor doses. But this effect was not enough to bring a satisfactory solution against problem. Keywords : Diuraphis noxia, Phalaris canariensis, fosfor ve azot dozları, populasyon gelişimi, verim özellikleri
