Abstract :In Turkey, mushroom poisonings are frequent especially in autumn and spring. In recent years, a great number of mushroom poisoning cases have been reported in fstanbul. Excursions to forests in fstanbul and its surroundings evidenced the widespread growth of Amanita phalloides in large numbers. The amount of α-amanitin was determined by HPLC in samples collected in 1991 and 1992.The a-amanitin content is between 4.4-13.3 mg/100 g in fresh mushrooms. Humidity and temperature are the most important factors affecting the amatoxin content in mushrooms.
