Abstract :Tiaprofenic acid (TA), has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties; it is an inhibitor of prostaglandin synthetase. The usual oral dose by mouth is 600 mg daily; this may be given in 2 or 3 divided doses or once daily as a sustained-release preparation. TA is readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It has a short half-life of about 2 hours. Sodium alginate is a natural, biodegradable and biocornpatible polymer used as suspending and gelling agent in pharmaceutical technology. Recently, the alginate gel beads has received much attention in sustained-release preparation. The aim of the present study was to formulate sustained-release TA beads based on sodium alginate in order to reduce daily dose and to minimize gastrointestinal disturbance caused by the drug. Key words: Tiaprofenic acid, sustained-release beads, sodium alginate. Keywords : Tiaprofenic acid, sustained-release beads, sodium alginate.
