Abstract :Background: The aim of our study was to compare the request-to-result times in the central biochemistry laboratory of Etlik City Hospital temporally and between clinics and to reveal the reasons for the changes in these times. Methods: The time of acceptance of the samples to the Central Biochemistry Laboratory of Etlik City Hospital and the time of confirmation of the results were noted and the difference between these two times was taken. Results: Delay rates were significantly different between the inpatients in October, November and December (P<0.001). For troponin tubes, the delay rates were significantly different between the inpatients in October, November and December (P<0.001). In the emergency department, the highest delay rate was for troponin: 73.8% and the lowest for hormone (12.1%), regardless of time. In the outpatient clinic, the highest delay rate was in biochemistry (43.2%) and the lowest in complete blood count (3.7%). When the tubes were compared according to the inpatients, it was observed that the highest percentage of delay was for troponin in the emergency department. Conclusions: The benefits we expect from our study are to clearly demonstrate the fast turnaround times of newly established biochemistry laboratories in large hospitals and centers, to show the changes in these times between clinics, to increase clinicians\' satisfaction with the laboratory, to reduce costs by shortening hospital stay times and to develop measures that can be taken. Keywords : Turn-around time, City hospital, Laboratory, Efficiency
