Abstract :The aim of this study is to determine the symbol errors made by primary school first and second grade students in four operations. The model of the research is a case study, one of the qualitative research methods. Working group; The sample consists of 327 students studying at the first and second grade levels of primary school, selected through criterion sampling, one of the purposive sampling methods. Content analysis method was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the analysis, within the category of symbol errors; "don\'t perceive the minus (–) sign as a plus (+) sign”, "do not perceive the plus (+) sign as a minus (–) sign”, "do not perceive the multiplication (x) sign as a plus (+) sign”, "the equal (=) sign misunderstood sign\", \"misuse the pipeline\", \"confuse the place of the operation symbols\", \"mistype the number symbols\", \"not use the pipeline\", \"not use the operation symbol\", \"multiplying the plus (+) sign (x) sign\" error types "detect multiplication (x) sign as dividing (÷) sign”, "detect minus (–) sign as division (÷) sign”, "detect division (÷) sign as minus (–) sign” error types determined. Among these error types, \"perceiving the minus (–) sign as a plus (+) sign\" was the highest rate of first-year students, and \"perceiving the multiplication (x) sign as a plus (+) sign\" was the highest rate of second-year students. It was concluded that mistakes were made. Keywords : İlkokul, Matematik Öğretimi, Dört İşlem, Sembol, Hata
